Built
13th century

Grynau Castle is a castle tower, built by the House of Rapperswil in the early 13th century. The castle (situated at the then only bridge over the Linth river,) secured the strategically important river crossing in the area between the Grafschaft Rapperswil and the House of Toggenburg.
The five-story tower measures 12.5 x 12.5 metres and the foundation walls are 2.2 metres thick. The castle was widely rebuilt between 1807 and 1816 on occasion of the construction of the Linth channel.
