Cartier Castle's origins can be traced back to the 17th century when the Honore family builds a castle on the Sambre river bank. The place had formerly been occupied by a seigneurial manor which was dertroyed in 1554.
The castle underwent major restorations between 1986 and 2001. Today, it hosts a public library on the ground floor, and administrative services of the Walloon region on the first floor.
