Castle of Montmort
★★★☆☆
The present building dates from the 16th century; it was probably built according to a plan of the former castle. The entire construction is made out of bricks, with a slate roof and it is protected by double ditches; it can be accessed by a bridge with three arches that leads to the drawbridge.
The building consists of a square keep, protected by circular towers in the four corners. The entrance tower houses a spiral ramp which allows horses to reach the higher levels. A gatehouse with brick turrets was added in the 19th century.
The castle is surrounded by a beautifully maintained park and kitchen gardens. A small cemetery located nearby links the site with the town.
