Which Was the Tallest Building on Earth... in 1311?
Did you know an English Cathedral was the world's tallest building for over 200 years?
In 1311, Lincoln Cathedral reached a height of 160 meters, surpassing the Great Pyramid of Giza — which had held the record for nearly 4,000 years.
Ironically, it didn't lose the record because something taller was built
But because a violent storm destroyed its central spire in 1549.
Had it survived, the cathedral might have remained the world's tallest structure until the Washington Monument in 1884… or even the Eiffel Tower in 1889.
