Warwick Castle is a medieval castle developed from an original built by William the Conqueror in 1068. During the Hundred Years War, the facade opposite the town was refortified, resulting in one of the most recognisable examples of 14th century military architecture.

Waiting For Sunrise Early morning on the River Avon at Warwick Castle in England. All is calm, and cold. It's Autumn. There's the first light of the day, but the sun has not yet risen enough to bring much colour - so everything seems to be just waiting for that light, and some warmth!

British Waterways : Heart of England cruises : holiday brochure, 1959 Issued for Summer 1959 this brochure details the "pleasure at Lesiure" 'Heart of England canal cruises that used the motor vessle "Water Rambler" and that by canal and connecting coach trips allowed for a five day holiday that ran between Birmingham (Sampson Road Wharf), Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon, Banbury and Oxford (and return). The tourists used various suitably located hotels en route, such as the Grand Hotel in Birmingham, Regent Hotel in Leamington Spa, Whatley Hall Hotel in Banbury and the Randolph Hotel in Oxford using caoches to transfer between hotels, wharf and attarctiosn visited whilst using various sections of the canal during the day to take in the scenery at leisurely pace. The brochure also gives details of railway connections to and from London to either Birmingham New Street, Birmingham Snow Hill or Oxford stations. This was quite an ingeneous scheme by British Waterways, who were part of the vast British Transport Commission, and indeed Briitsh Waterways were at the time quite actively marketing the growing trend towards the leisure use of canals away from the almost wholly industrial and commercial use of the waterways that was the case when the Commission became responsible for most of the UK's canals and navigable waterways when they were nationalised in 1948 along with rail and road transport. The Commission also became owners of the many railway owned docks and harbours at the time and these came under the remit of the Waterways Executive. The leaflet is typical of the generally high quality publicity issued by the BTC and Waterways at the time and they were often, as is this, produced at the Curwen Press and so demonstrate careful attention to graphic deisgn and typography. This brochure rather neatly uses canal barge art as its inspiration with use of bordered panels that is often to be found on the decoration of canal vessels and artefacts. As can be seen on the rear cover the Waterways used a version of London Transport's roundel as their logo.
Warwick Castle Made for the Merlin Entertainments Group by Ryco Originals Product Number: 71539997 cardboard 1,000 pieces, used and complete 26¼ x 20 in 2022 piece count: 102,509 puzzle: 139 Now and again we fancy doing a photo-scene jigsaw like this; not the corny cottages that are everywhere (although we've been guilty of that in the past) but an historical building or something similar. So here it is: Warwick Castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1068, rebuilt in stone during the 12th century, refortified in the 14th century. A family home until 1978 when it was sold to a media and entertainment company, who opened it as a tourist attraction. This jigsaw would have been sold in its gift shop sometime between 2007 and the present day*. Made by Ryco, who seem to only produce these photo puzzles. Thinnish pieces and a loose fit but with a matt finish, which is good when assembling under artificial light (no glare). Complete. *Or possibly 2011-2016. Ryco seem to have ceased trading in 2016.
