The Alcazar of Segovia is rising out on a rocky crag above the confluence of two rivers near the Guadarrama mountains. It is one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain by virtue of its shape - like the bow of a ship.

English: Making off: Edited from a two vertical RAWs file and merged with photomerge of CS. I´ve more lucky in this day, sun, clouds... Image with a few edition. The site of the Alcazar of Segovia, on the top of a rock shaped by the rivers Eresma and Clamores, shows the military origins of this fortress which, for centuries, was impregnable. The oldest testimony we have of the Alcázar is a document dating from the early days of the 12th century (1122), a short time after the town had been recaptured by Alfonso VI, which refers to the fortress as a hill-fort on the Eresma. A short time later, in a letter of 1155, it was already being referred to as "Alcázar". However, it is more than probable that the fortress had existed in earlier times, possibly since the Roman occupation, because granite blocks similar to those of the Aqueduct have been found in the course of recent excavations. In residencies of the monarchs of Castile, partly due to the beauty of its location and its unquestionable military secureness, and partly for its proximity to the famous hunting-grounds in the mountain forests.

In the 1960s, many of Disney ‘imagineers’ traveled throughout different parts of Europe looking for fanciful castles to model Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World theme parks. It has never been said specifically that the Alcazar of Segovia was the inspiration, but Disney did admit that Cinderella’s Castle was ‘inspired by the great castles of Europe’. What do you think? Do you think Segovia’s Castle helped to inspire those Disney ‘imagineers’ that visited so many years ago? treasuresoftraveling.com/alcazar-of-segovia/ #TreasuresOfTraveling #Segovia #Spain #España #Turret #Alcázar #AlcázarDeSegovia #AlcazarOfSegovia #CastleOnTheHill #Castle #Palace #Disney #CinderellasCastle #UNESCO #SegoviaSpain #TravelSpain #Europe #SpanishTreasures #TourThePlanet #PhotoOfTheDay #WorldTraveler #GlobeTrotter #PassportStamps #TravelTheWorld #TheGlobeWanderer #TravelGram #FollowMeFarAway #Wanderlust #GuysWhoTravel #GayTraveler

There is a Spanish tradition called ‘la mujer muerte’, which means ‘the dead woman’ where you can look out over the castle walls to the Spanish countryside and see the silhouette of this dead woman. You will have to use your imagination, but the peaks and valleys of the Sierra de Guadarrama, which stretch across the horizon, supposedly resemble the body of a woman, lying on her back with her knees slightly bent.
