Burg Perchtoldsdorf
★★★☆☆
Burg Perchtoldsdorf is a castle located in the center of Perchtoldsdorf on the slope of the Wienerwald.
The origins of the castle date back before the year 1000; it was built (like many other castles from that period) on the eastern edge of the Wienerwald to protect the Babenbergs (a noble dynasty of Austrian margraves and dukes) from the invading Hungarians. The castle originally consisted of a brick tower and some wooden buildings protected by a palisade and a moat; in the first part of the 12th century, the wooden buildings were replaced by brickwork and a castle with a wall was erected.
Since 1976, the Burghof has been used annually for summer theater.
